Writer Maya Angelou is the author of twelve books and one of the great voices of contemporary literature. Here are some quotes from a recent interview with Oprah. Said Ms. Angelou:
(1) "I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow." (2) I've learned that you can tell a lot about aperson by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights." (3) I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life."
Comment on one of these quotes. Do you agree or disagree? Do you have your own variation? What stories about people--in your own life or in the lives of others-- do these quotes suggest?

I agree with the first quote. Things won't always go your way when you may want them to, but tomorrow will be better. Life will go on no matter what the situation you are dealing with may be. You have to look at the bright side of things. It is so easy to look at the negative things that may be occuring in life. One of my favorite scriptures that keeps me motivated is, "And this to shall pass."
I would agree with what Maya Angelou says. bad things happen and we can't control them, but we can control how we respond to these events. we can either blow up, and blame everything under the sun (which does nothing to solve the problem) or we can 'forgive and forget' and find a way to solve or alliviate the problem.
"For all things work together for the glory of God"
Her first quote I can agree with. There have been plenty of times that I've had an issue but life has always continued reguardless. It always seems worse when your going through an issue, when you look back on something typically you realize it wasn't as bad as you thought or you managed to get by no matter how bad it seemed at the time.
I would certainly agree with Maya Angelou's first two comments. Bad things happen, and it's extremely important to learn how to successfully deal with them. If you keep in mind that life will go on and more than likely be better tomorrow, it is easier to forget the things that make life a little less pleasant. Naturally, you should be able to tell a lot about the way a person handles everything in his/her life by the way he/she handles unexpected and negative experiences.
I agree with the third quote. No matter how good or bad your relationship with your parents, you will miss them when they are gone one day. Our parents our the ones that provide and take care of us. Without our parents, we wouldn't be the people we are today.
I agree with the first quote. everything happens for a reason and sometimes you cant always control that. but you cant dwell on that. life moves on and you just have to put the past behind you.
I definately agree with Maya Angelou. Shit happens. But no matter what you have to roll with the punches and keep on keep'n on. I believe that I decide whether or not a day will be a good day or if the day will suck. But tomorrow is always another day. So nothing is too much to handle.
How could you not agree with such an open-minded and strong woman who looks at things with such a clarity. Maya makes the rainy days more meaningful. Reading the three points, she has made here, it makes you slow down and open your eyes a bit wider to see the whole picture of our life here.
I agree with the second quote. A person's character shows the most when they are not in perfect circumstances. I really respect people who still have great additudes even when in rough situations. It is during the small but annoying things in life when a persons true personality is revealed.
Things can get pretty bad. Some peaple even think of killing themselves. But things can always get better. If something is bringing you down in your life you can get away from it, quit doing it, or move on. If you feel trapped or stuck always remember. You control your own life. You can do whatever you want. What you decide to do is up to you. If you want to be happy you can be.
I completely agree with Ms. Angelou's first quote. No matter what I may have been through, everything looks brighter the next day. Although I often do, there is no reason for me to worry over things that I have absolutely no control over. Instead of getting stressed out I need to just relax.
"For I know the plans that I have for you, plans to keep you and not to harm you."
I, as well as many others, would agree with these quotes especially the quote that says that no matter how bad of a day one may be having, life does goes on and it will be better tomorrow. I'm sure we have all been in this situation one time or another in our life and the best thing to do is to forget about it and move on. Most of the time we can't control what happens. Things happen for a reason and nothing can be done besides putting in the past.
You are always able to tell more about a person when they aren't in the best circumstances, whether it be a conflict, or something else to show their true colors. People can sugar coat everything while they aren't upset but when they are unhappy you see the person that they really are.
2) I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights."
It’s a funny way of putting it, but I do agree with her statement. People who face a rainy day, lost luggage or tangled tree lights without absolutely blowing up are more than likely happy, upbeat people, and those who do let these things get under their skin are generally uptight, angry people with short fuses. I’m not saying that people are either happy or angry; there are certainly variations in between those two extremes. For example, I have a friend who would fuss about a rainy day, sue everyone if his luggage was lost and would not even put up Christmas lights for fear of getting them tangled…not a happy person.
I agree with the second quote. I truly admire a person that can smile and laugh even when things aren't going their way. I have been guilty of getting upset when it's rainy on a day that I had plans, and I have to remind myself that it is raining for a reason and find something else to do.
